AFTER ACTION REPORT FROM: COUPE, CPL, 3 SEC 1 PLTN A COY 2 PARA BN SUBJECT: Operation PHILEMON VII 082000ZNOV17 ++++++++++++++BEGINS++++++++++++++++ 1) Patrol composition and Location Our section was comprised of two vehicles, a HMG Jackal and a GMG Coyote. We followed the platoon out of the leaguer under enemy IDF fire and set up on a ridgeline to provide suppressive GMG fire. Our coyote vehicle was destroyed by enemy IDF fire and resulted in three P4 casualties. Once we were reinserted, we took a jackal vehicle and set up by the cave location. We then took a P2 casualty. An explosion occurred in the cave and the platoon equipped CBRN gear, but it did not appear any chemical agents were present. We breached into the cave and found several enemy bodies and various arms and ammunition, as well as a rigged explosive trap. A number of trucks and vehicles were seen moving away from the cave to the West, one truck then exploded around 600-800m range, releasing a suspicious cloud of gas. We then set up explosive charges in the cave and left via helicopter to act as QRF to investigate an archaeological dig site. After detonating the charges, the helicopter moved to the South, where we moved to perform a recce on the dig site. We began taking sniper fire and witnessed civilians also taking sniper fire. One civilian and one injured civilian joined our section, and we killed a few enemy snipers. We were then attacked by an enemy vehicle QRF, consisting of several armed technicals and a few larger armed trucks. We killed the drivers and gunners of approximately 3-5 vehicles, before moving away to the North to set up an ARD and await reinforcement from the company. 2) Leaguer Status ; Our section is located nearby to HLS Indy in ARD. 3) Ammunition and/or supplies expended; One coyote was destroyed, minimal rounds fired from other vehicles.

AFTER ACTION REPORT FROM: COUPE, CPL, 3 SEC 1 PLTN A COY 2 PARA BN SUBJECT: Operation PHILEMON VI 052000ZNOV17 ++++++++++++++BEGINS++++++++++++++++ 1) Patrol composition and Location Our section was comprised of two vehicles. We moved through phase line yellow to high point 628 South-West of phase line red. We moved up to a ridge line and took contact which immobilised one of our vehicles, and resulted in a P4 casualty who was loaded into the vehicle in a bodybag. After repairing all four wheels we retreated to HLS Hendricks. One of our vehicles rolled over and was left in place at grid reference 07972541. After two P2 casualties were extracted and reinserted, we moved up on the ridgeline to the West of phase line red, bringing a resupply of a single Coyote vehicle to the platoon regroup. We detonated an enemy weapons cache, and then moved to the South-West of the platoon reorg to investigate an enemy position that was firing on friendly helicopters. Upon moving to the next ridge we took contact with an estimated fireteam strength enemy and suffered three P4 casualties. Our section is now awaiting reinsert from FOB Hermes. 2) Leaguer Status ; One vehicle has remained at HLS Hendricks, the other is located with A/1 at the reorg location. 3) Ammunition and/or supplies expended; We have used all of our spare wheels and approximately one magazine for each vehicle's 50. cal.

AFTER ACTION REPORT TO: 1 PLTN A COY 2 PARA BN FROM: 3 SECTION,1 PLTN A COY 2 PARA BN SUBJECT: Operation PHILEMON III 251900ZOCT17 After Action Report 1) Patrol composition and Location - including VRN of any vehicles; 2 vehicles (2 Jackal HMGs) conducted a patrol through the civilian trading post, to the South end of phase line green and on to phase line yellow. Upon reaching the trading post, a nearby friendly vehicle was destroyed by an alleged suicide bomber. We pursued two civilians running from the wreck and detained one of them, the other ran too far to be caught. According to him, he was in a group of 2 men from Mauritania, heading to a nearby Red Cross camp. He said that a third individual joined them randomly, and it was him who conducted the bombing on friendly forces. We brought him back to the trading post and then released him. We then attempted to enter the compound, but were refused entry. Due to the trading post being the only structure in the area, and the suspicious nature of the individuals there, we entered the compound to conduct a search for explosive making equipment. During the search of the structures, one of the civilians took up his weapon and threatened us while demanding that we leave. We issued verbal warnings to lower his weapon, and then fired warning shots but the civilian did not respond. He was then shot in the leg, which resulted in a fatality. The search did not find anything of note, and we exited the compound towards phase line green. We pushed through to phase line yellow with nothing to report. When we reached the area near to the hills in YG, we sighted several individuals spread across that ridge to the North West of our position, some of which were manning deployed machine guns. We took fire from this ridge, and upon returning fire destroyed several enemy individuals while taking no casualties. We then moved further West and began taking accurate IDF fire, which resulted in one P3 casualty, and we left the area to the North to meet with Tac. The IDF fire continued to follow us there, so we moved further East and remained there for the platoon leaguer. 2) Leaguer Status ; Both vehicles leaguered at grid reference 145210. 3) Ammunition and/or supplies expended; One vehicle used all of its main gun ammunition, the other expended a full magazine. Our marksman fired 20 rounds.

We were in contact with two enemy technicals in grid reference 172238, one HMG and one GMG. Both enemy vehicles were destroyed. We then moved to investigate a civilian trading post in grid reference 176215. We spoke with two individuals, one named as Hasam; the leader/owner of the compound. They required no aid or assistance from us. He provided us with intelligence on local enemy forces - they are using sacred tombs inside a cave system to the South of the trading post in some fashion. No locals enter these caves due to their sacred nature - the traders advised we can speak with the local nomadic shepherds to learn more. They also informed us they are keeping a number of women locked up inside the compound. We left on amicable terms and returned to the platoon RV. 2) Leaguer Status ; Both vehicles leaguered at grid reference 181222, on the A/1 RV. 3) Ammunition and/or supplies expended; HMG rounds fired from both vehicles, less than 1 magazine. Request for 2 backpack 117 radios.
