II. SITUATION

Thanks to 1st Platoon’s operations, the initial Russian advance was stalled long enough to remove most of the NATO assets from Georgia. The Russians eventually managed to break through Georgian lines by utilizing paratroopers. In the subsequent operations, Georgian morale was utterly crushed with some units surrendering or deserting en masse. The remnants of the Georgian army are now held up in various locations across the country and are currently under assault by Russian and rebel units.

Approximately 30 minutes ago, a US helicopter that was evacuating some VIPs from the US Embassy suffered an engine failure and crashed in a police station near the embassy compound. Satellite reconnaissance indicates that some of the crew may have survived and are holed up in the compound. The Russians and rebels are quickly closing in on the city. 1st Platoon is being tasked with the recovery of any surviving crew before they are overrun by enemy forces.

i. GROUND

In General: Georgia is a wet/temperate area, mountainous in the northern and South-Eastern part of the province with dense forests located throughout the area. The coastline has several larger cities, including the provincial capital, Tbilisi. The central part of the province is where most of the agricultural production occurs, with many villages dotting the area surrounded by working fields. The road network is ageing, but modern since it was built during the Soviet Union’s control of the province.

ii. ENEMY FORCES

Known & Suspected En. Positions: The Russians are currently engaged with surviving Georgian elements in various holdouts throughout the country, mostly along the coastline. Small Russian units are to be expected within the AO with larger forces ready to respond if called upon.
